Linus [writing to the Great Pumpkin]: "You must get discouraged because more people believe in Santa Claus than you. Well, let's face it; Santa Claus has had more publicity, but being number two, perhaps you try harder."

It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown (1966)

In an attempt to affirm Linus' proclamation, we at TBC_afp are diving into cult classic for the season. We are talking about both versions of Fright Night for a compare and contrast. Also in this episode #rip #SuzanneSomers #KeithGiffen #sagaftra2023

DC Studios Multi-Year Plan Announcement and Other News.

And just like that, one half of new head of DC Studios, James Gunn took to social media to announce their road map for the next several years thereby also consolidating its universe for films, TV streaming and comicbooks. No longer will there be differently confusing Batmen and alternate versions of characters under one roof. From non-Henry Cavill Superman to animated Creature Commandos to Authority anti-heros, this primary "phase" has been labeled, Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters. Even for the cynic, many hope we will get fresh solid storytellings enough to rival Kevin Feige's MCU. Let's wait and see.

The Last of Us (Spoiler Discussion) X In The News

From Super Mario Bros. (1993) to Assassin's Creed and to recently Uncharted (starring Tom Holland), videogames turned into movies and/or TV shows have notoriously flopped one after another. It is an established rule to avoid watching from this genre altogether yet one begs to ask why the entertainment industry continues to churn when the response revies are usually negative.

As of January of 2023, HBO Max has released the live action post-apocalyptic series, The Last of Us, based on the massively popular Sony Playstation game of the same name starring Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian) and Bella Ramsey (A Game of Thrones). Currently is it enjoying high marks on Rotten Tomatoes (99% Average/ 96% Audience) but is it up to TBC_afp snuff?

The Batman (Spoiler Review)

In the immortal parodied words of Alfred Pennyworth, well not really, more like an exchange between British comedians, Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon from the 2014 film The Trip to Italy, we get a tickling Michael Caine impersonation-off exchange that went like this: "I'm not going to bury 'nother Batman!" "Another Batman? How many Batman(s) has he been burying?" Which in reflection hilariously sums up most sentiments from when WB announced in 2019 yet another Batman would be cast for a standalone movie this time directed by Matt Reeves to be set apart from Zack Synder's Batman portrayed by Ben Affleck. This time Robert Pattinson, of Twilight Saga fame, would be cast as the Dark Knight and already fans either felt optimistically cautious or flat out unsure how this project would pan out. As of current having enjoyed being at the top of the box office for only a month, The Batman sits at $676 million and counting, still not quite what Spider-Man No Way Home has accomplished but time will tell. And what do we think? Here's a Riddle: I can be tuned for conversation but not like a piano nor radio. What am I?

Richard Donner #RIP

The Godfather of modern Superhero/ comicbook movie genre, Richard Donner directed Superman The Movie in 1978 starring Christopher Reeve. The follow up sequel Superman II lead to a departure by the director due to creative differences resulting in a lesser treatment only for the director’s cut to be released in later years. He was Zack Snyder before there was Zack Synder and the embodiment blueprint to what Kevin Feige envisioned for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Every comicbook movie traces its DNA to Donner. Donner and his wife were were also producers on Bryan Singer’s X-Men and directed other little known movies such as The Omen, The Goonies and launched a small film franchise called Lethal Weapon. Donner’s impact on Hollywood filmmaking shall remain undeniable. #RIP

This unexpected opportunity is a clear revelation to both fanboys and critics whether Synder merits creative vindication or not. SHAZAM! (Spoiler Review)

A famous writer once penned the line “What's in a name? That which we call a rose; By any other name would smell as sweet” in order to evoke the idea that what really counts isn’t just how a thing is labeled. Rather that true heroic significance and character comes from within or that our actions define us. In SHAZAM!, starring Zachary Levi as DC Comic’s sometimes anti-Superman analog and child’s-eye-view superhero commentary (commonly know through the source material as Captain Marvel), WB/ DC Cinematic Universe attempts to deliver at the Box Office again at the wake of Aqua-success, The World's Mightiest Mortal. Follow TBC_afp as they take that leap of faith and call out SHAZAM!
